There are refinishers who deeply love their profession and who put their heart and soul into their work. Spies Hecker has immortalised their most beautiful projects in the new 2018 calendar For the love of the job. The images, which were taken by German photographer Ramon Wink, show lovingly-crafted refinish and restoration projects – from a 1962 Cadillac ambulance and a modern aerobatic plane, to a fiery red Harley-Davidson.
Unusual classics, such as the 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood Commercial Superior Royal Rescuer are rarely seen on the road, but it graces the January page of the new Spies Hecker calendar. This lovingly restored specimen from the golden Cadillac era gleams in a strong signal red with a white roof, classic whitewall tyres and the famous chrome front grille. Its owner found the car in the USA in the 1980s and brought it to Europe. It took another five years to restore it to its current appearance.
Up, up and away
In competitions and air shows, well-trained aerobatics pilots rapidly ascend, fly loops and undertake barrel rolls. But such special flight manoeuvres require aircraft that are extremely resilient, light-weight and nimble. For this reason, aircraft manufacturer XtremeAir GmbH in Hecklingen, Germany, produces lightweight planes with carbon fibre components that are very popular with pilots. The XA plane shown in April weighs only 632kg and is extremely agile in flight. All the planes from XtremeAir are built by hand and to order. What matters almost as much as the technology behind every plane is the paint design that helps the aircraft to stand out during air displays. When it comes to painting its planes, the team at XtremeAir is firmly committed to innovative products from Spies Hecker.

In Michi’s Custom Color, a bodyshop in the Austrian town of Judendorf-Straßengel, is a matte black Harley-Davidson Street Glide with red flames and subtly painted skulls. The machine, which features in June, is the product of the detailed and professional refinish work by managing director Michael Bachlinger and his team. Bachlinger proudly mentions international trade fairs where his business’ refinish designs have been displayed. For such prominent appearances, it is of course important for the paint quality to be top notch, and from primer to topcoat, Bachlinger relies on Spies Hecker’s product systems.

“The large format photos for the 2018 calendar show what outstanding results can be achieved when refinishers are completely passionate about their job,” says Joachim Hinz, Spies Hecker Brand Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “We are already calling on all bodyshops to submit their entries for the 2019 calendar.” Anyone interested should send photos of their work and bodyshop, as well as information on their refinish project, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
