A passion for paint
04/12/09

Masterpieces 2010 – this means bringing creativity and love to the bodywork and paintwork. Fascinating finishes from all over the world, gathered together on the popular Spies Hecker Masterpieces 2010 calendar.

Whenever Spies Hecker invites bodyshops to send in pictures of their best work, it doesn’t take long for them to reply. Whatever the object – a classic car, helicopter, race car or truck –the internationally renowned Masterpieces Calendar from the Cologne-based paint maker is again showcasing outstanding painting work in 2010. No less diverse than the painted objects are the teams that have competed for the twelve calendar sheets. “The response to the competition was overwhelming. Over 200 bodyshops around the world submitted their crowning achievements this year,” explains Peter Wingen of Spies Hecker Marketing. “We even received participation inquiries from Indonesia.” The twelve pictures have now been decided on, as have the competition winners:
1st place:
1956 Rometsch Beeskow Convertible
Lackiererei Seebacher, Germany
2nd place:
1958 Chevrolet Corvette
Danmar Autobody, South Africa
3rd place:
1941 Ford pick-up
Mosegaards Autolakering ApS, Denmark

First-placed Martin Seebacher from Appenweier in Germany: “The Masterpieces Calendar from Spies Hecker is out of the ordinary and captures our imagination year after year. To be on it in a picture is something special – and to come first is a real distinction. It proves that we’ve truly mastered our art.” The bodyshop and paintshop entered its finish on a Rometsch Beeskow Convertible dating back to 1956. The team around Martin Seebacher and his son Mario spent three months working on the sparkling paintwork of this collector’s item. In doing so, they made use of efficient Permahyd and Permasolid materials from Spies Hecker.

Second place in the competition went to the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette painted by Danmar Autobody, Sandton, South Africa. Over a year’s work went into the bodywork and paintwork of this automotive classic, and a total of seven refinishers took part in the restoration and repainting of this jewel of a vehicle. “We’re very proud to have achieved second place among all the outstanding projects,” stresses bodyshop manager JB Bezuidenhout.

A sentiment shared by Frank Mosegaard, owner of Mosegaards Autolakering ApS in Bramming, Denmark. His business competed with a 1941 Ford pick-up painted in the Los Angeles style of the Nineteen Fifties – and claimed third place in the competition. The paint finish took over 500 hours. It goes without saying that Spies Hecker’s experts gave a helping hand with paint system recommendations and the right products. Frank Mosegaard: “We shall hang up the calendar so that it will be equally visible to the team and customers. And we shall refer to it in our dealings with key accounts and new customers – as our own personal way of marketing our services.”
“The choice was really difficult,” says Peter Wingen. “In fact, all the entries ought to have won, as almost every entered project was a genuine masterpiece,” he stresses. “We at Spies Hecker are very grateful to all the bodyshops that made their showpieces available – as far as we’re concerned, everyone of them is a winner!”
